SUZIE’S VISOR CAP (C)

Thank you Jo NY for testing this pattern.

The visor is just one example of Jo's work.

MATERIALS:
About 2 oz of worsted weight yarn
Foam visor (Michaels, Wal-Mart, JoAnn Fabrics)
H/5.0 mm crochet hook
C/2.5 mm crochet hook
1/8 inch hole punch
Yarn needle

SIZE: Woman’s Average

NOTES:

1. Read through instructions completely before beginning pattern.
2. I used a narrow tape measure to mark the places for the holes. I placed them about 1/4 inch from the upper edge of the visor. See the photo.
3. When using the C hook, pull your stitches up slightly, you need to be able to get your H hook through them on the next round.
4. Always pull your slipstitches tight, you want them to nearly disappear.
5. To work dc dec, *yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw loop through, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook, repeat from * in next st, yo and draw through 3 loops on hook.
6. To work sc dec, Insert hook in next st, draw up a lp, (two loops on hook), insert hook in next st, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo and draw through all 3 loops.
7. Cap/visor may be worn with or without the coil in place.
8. Cap will look funky until it is on, but you will be stylin’.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Remove coil from visor. Save the coil so you can put it back.

Punch 27 holes evenly spaced between the 2 holes where the coil was. That is one hole about every 3/8 inch.

Round 1: With the bill of the visor pointed toward you, using the C hook attach yarn with a single crochet in the first hole. Sc in each remaining hole. Switch to H hook, ch 39. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (27 sc and 39 ch)

Try it on at this point. It should fit snugly. If it is doesn’t fit, adjust by making fewer or more chains.

Rounds 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (66 sc)

Round 4: Ch 1, *sc in 9 sc, sc dec over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (60 sts)

Round 5: Ch 1, *sc in 8 sc, sc dec over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (54 sts)

Rounds 6-7: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (54 sts)

For visor fasten off now.

To make a cap, continue with following rounds.

Rounds 8-9: Ch 2 (doesn’t count as first dc here or on subsequent rounds), dc in each st. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (54 sts)

At this point it should measure about 3 inches at the back.

Round 10: Ch 2, *dc in 7 sts, dc dec over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (48 sts)

Round 11: Ch 2, *dc in 6 sts, dc dec over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. . Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (42 sts)

Round 12: Ch 1, sc in each st. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (42 sts)

Round 13: Ch 2, *dc in 5 sts, dc dec over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (36 sts)

Round 14: Ch 2, *dc dec over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (18 sts)

Round 15:
Ch 1, sc in each st. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (18 sts)

Round 16:
Ch 2, *dc dec over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join with a slipstitch in first dc. (9 sts)

Fasten off, either leave hole at center top of cap open or weave end through the last 9 sts and pull tight. Weave in ends.

Replace coil if wanted.
